How to keep your battery alive during a long gaming session

August 13, 2026 · Marta Novak

Battery anxiety is real when a good session gets cut short by a red icon. The good news is you can often double your play time with changes that barely affect the experience.

Start with brightness. Dropping it even slightly, especially on an OLED screen in a dark game, saves more than most people expect. Capping the frame rate to 30 is the next big lever, particularly in graphically rich racers and RPGs.

Turn off anything labelled high-quality shadows, motion blur, or bloom unless you genuinely love how they look. These effects are the quiet battery killers, and most games look nearly identical without them.

Finally, a warm phone drains faster, so take it out of a thick case during long sessions and keep it out of direct sun. None of this is dramatic on its own, but stacked together it's the difference between finishing a chapter and scrambling for a charger.
