Grid Marshal

Grid Marshal is a lean little strategy game that respects your time. Each mission fits in roughly ten minutes, and you plan unit moves on a clear hex grid without the clutter a lot of mobile strategy games pile on. The difficulty curve is fair but genuinely makes you think by the third chapter.

The pinch-to-zoom and drag controls work well, though on a smaller screen I recommend increasing the UI scale in settings so unit icons don't blur together. Once I did that, selecting the right soldier in a crowded tile became painless.

It's very battery-friendly because there's almost no animation between turns. I played several missions on a train and barely noticed any drain, which makes it one of my go-to picks for travel.
