Which game genres actually fit a short commute
I used to start sprawling RPGs on the bus and arrive at my stop mid-cutscene, which is the worst way to play anything. Over time I've learned which genres suit the rhythm of commuting and which fight it.
Turn-based strategy and tactics games are near-perfect. They pause whenever you do, the sessions are naturally short, and they barely touch your battery because the screen mostly sits still between moves.
Casual collections and gentle puzzles are the other obvious winners, you can pick them up and drop them without losing anything. Racers and big RPGs are harder: they're fun but hungry, both for your attention and your battery.
My rule now is simple. If a game punishes you for stopping after five minutes, save it for the couch. For the bus, pick something that forgives interruption and sips power instead of gulping it.
